In 1943, the World War II was raging and the Imperial Japanese navy was eyeing for a patch of paradise and the aerodrome around Koggala lake was home to the RAF PBY Catalina’s and short Sunderlands sea boats.

Today this sleepy hamlet is far away from war, the gently swaying coconut groves and rolling surf of a long beach and the ever smiling locals are just 02 hours away on Southern Expressway (E01). If you’re into trains, a nostalgic rail journey of two and a half hours or if you’re in a hurry it’s thirty minutes by air taxi to Koggala aerodrome.
